Imagine that a group of militants invades your town, murders your loved ones, burns your house, and makes your life so unbearable that you need to flee the country to save what’s left of your family. What happens if no one wants you?
That’s what’s happening to the people of Syria right now. A civil war is raging in that country, and the people caught in the middle are so desperate to escape the horrors that they will do anything to find safe harbor, including crossing an ocean in overcrowded boats and sneaking past closely guarded borders. Wouldn’t you? I would. Hell yes, I would. I would do anything I could to keep my family safe.
Many of these people have nothing but the clothes on their backs. They need help and lots of it, for both medical and humanitarian care. But we’re half a world away. What can we do?
Easy.
While you’re out gathering supplies for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, stop by an Austin Bakes bake sale on Nov. 14, 2015, to benefit refugees from the ongoing tragedies in Syria. If you can’t make it to a bake sale, you can also donate online.

Austin Bakes for Austin is a group of Austin bloggers, foodies, and businesses that volunteer time and baked goods to raise funds for those in need. Austin Bakes has previously conducted bake sales for victims of the Japan earthquake/tsunami, the Nepal earthquake, the West, TX, explosion, and the Bastrop wildfires of 2011. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to help the refugees.
Austin Bakes has partnered with AmeriCares to help bring relief to the refugees. AmeriCares has the infrastructure in place to accept a large gift from Austin Bakes for Refugees and to use the funds efficiently where they’re needed most. The organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit, so gifts towards their efforts are tax-deductible.
Please help by spreading the word and encouraging your friends and family to follow Austin Bakes to help share the latest information about the sale:

October 24, 2015 at 4:36pmYou’re welcome! I don’t think I’ll have time to make anything for the sale, but I’ll definitely be buying something. I’ve bought stuff from the other sales, and the cakes, cookies, and pies are absolutely wonderful!
