Big Little Fudge

A couple of weeks ago, while wandering the aisles of Central Market Westgate, something with the word “fudge” caught my eye. Turns out, it was an individually wrapped piece of fudge from a company called Big Little Fudge.IMG_0534 copy

Of course, I had to try it. I bought a flavor called “The Great Divide” and brought it home. The Great Divide consisted of a layer of chocolate fudge on the bottom and a layer of peanut butter fudge on top. I loved it. The texture was smoother than the fudge I make, trending more toward a caramel texture. I adore caramel, so that caramelly mouth-feel only enhanced its goodness in my opinion. The 1.25 square inch cube was big enough to cut up and share with someone else. (Not that I did. I admit it; I ate it all.)

I had never heard of Big Little Fudge before, so I did a little research. Because I like to support local and regional businesses, I was pleased to find out that they are a Texas company. They cook up their fudge creations in Montgomery, Texas.

Intrigued, I went back to Central Market to pick up some of the other flavors to try. I picked up another Great Divide along with three other flavors: ‘Nut’orius, Mega Maple Nut, and Choc A Lot.

All four had consistently smooth textures (no grainy sugar crystals or lumps other than nuts) and really good flavors. I’m not a walnut fan, but at least the nut pieces weren’t soggy as they are in so many other prepared foods. The Great Divide was my favorite, followed by Choc A Lot. The Mega Maple Nut had a nice maple flavor, and the fudge part of ‘Nut’orius was just as good as Choc A Lot. (Again, not a walnut fan.)

Big Little Fudge makes 12 flavors, adding special flavors as the occasion warrants. Central Market carries the four flavors I purchased. Dillard’s carries two variety boxes: A Little Piece on Earth and Little Winter Wonderfuls. You can also find them at Big Little Fudge, and you can stop by their store if you happen to pass through Montgomery.

By the way, I’m not the only person who thinks this fudge is pretty tasty. Big Little Fudge was included in the Top 10 Best Fudge in America article in the December 2013 issue of Cooking with Paula Deen.

Definitely give Big Little Fudge a try. I think you’ll like it.
